It sounds as tho your mom is willing to not shun you. I expected it from extended family. To my shock and delight, they treated me the same. My epiphany started with a NT course. As I read the scriptures for the course, I noticed how wrong the WT was on so many subjects. The very text of the Bible differed from Witness teaching. I kept calling home from the library every fifteen minutes. My mom was interested. I did not want to be overheard. No one esle was calling home about Mark or John. My family had no clue. I so much wanted my aunt and gm to look for themselves. My aunt witnessed to me which was my cue to let her have it. Only I realized how deeply she was committed. It would cause her to have a breakdown. My gm I told many things.

I'm afraid I'd be single for life
by ohnightdivine inthis is quite embarrassing for me to share, but as a 30+ year old single female i have lingering doubts as to whether i can still meet a decent man and get married.. you all know how difficult it is for sisters to find an appropriate partner in the congregation.. and now, all the more so that i've learned ttatt.
i still am bound by low self-esteem, and i do have trust issues, especially with men.
i am very lonely and so i just keep myself busy with work to avoid depression (although it is also a great source of stress).. any other single females out there having similar thoughts?.

It is a reality for many JW women. The solution is not to be a JW woman. I suggest reading The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir. Also, you only need fine 1. You don't need fifty in reserve. I've seen JW Match sites. It does not help that men feel they must subjugate women. Marriages mean less time knocking on doors. The Jewish example floored me as I was exposed to it. Dating is highly favored within the culture. Children are important. Intelligence is valued. There are so many ways to meet men. Jewish groups hold mixers. You can even use a matchmaker.

I don't understand. Yesterday I started a thread on this case. The court held that the definition of "hate crimes" was overly broad. Legal journals have thousands of articles warning of the dangers of prosecutions for "hate crimes." These men physically assaulted Amish men that believed differently than them. Cutting off the hair and beards is particularly degrading for Amish people. They cut off hair and beard within the splinter groupto punish people.
Most of the convicted men already served their sentences. The case needs to be retried with a less expansive definition of hate crime.
They actually touched their victims. Perhaps hate crimes should be dropped and the men convicted of assault and battery.

HHow is the KJV more God's word? The Biblical languages are Hebrew and Greek. King James authorized the translation. The Stuarts had all sorts of political diifficulties. I enjoy it. The Psalms are particularly beautiful in that language. English usage has changed so much that KJV is hard to comprehend. I prefer Rite I with the Middle English to the more universal Rite II. I will get up early to hear Rite I.
The Message Bible is the negation of English for me. It makes me sick. English can be so achingly beautiful. There are other translations that are easy on modern ears. It is an aethetic judgment. I know it is a Message translation as soon as I hear or read one line. Computer software and the Internet enable us to compare many translations. I am using a NIV now. My family Bible is huge. Rembrandt drawings illustrate the Bible. There is a center section to record family info such as births, deaths, marriages. The problem is that it is too heavy to use. I need to purchase a lectern from a library supply store to keep the Bible open. Cancel

JWs were heavily persecuted. My family members went to jail for knocking on doors in New Jersey. Drastic treatment for a religious group protected by the language of the First Amendment. The main reason my father was called to go to Bethel was his brawn. He was given a rifle. My mom was in the audience when the right wing Roman Catholic priest was allowed access to Madison Square Garden during a convention. The extremists threw ammonia bombs directly at women and children. Where was the NYPD? My father fought them off with a cane. I believe they used canes b/c of a NY concealed weapon law. Any textbook dealing with civil rights mentions the Supreme Court cases brought by Covington and the ACLU. Once upon a time, I was so impressed by the Supreme Court wins. A prof said I should be shocked that they had to create a body of case law.
The rights were enforced in time. They are a deep pockets now. I am not aware of any civil rights issues being litigated now.

It is true that the way a war ends is as important as how it starts. The reparations after WWI were crippling. Not much attention was paid to the burden they imposed on civilizations. Hitler used them to come to power. I believe the Allieds decided to help rebuild economies after WWII.

Here's Why the Watchtower Won't Speak Out Against Islam "Craig Winn" Interview 1
by BucketShopBill incraig winn is one of the most authoritative individuals of islam there is, he's done more research and written extensive on why islam is so dangerous.
his books were written after 9-11-01, now when you listen to his interview get the gist of why islam is not "the religion of peace", it's quite the opposite and even if anyone claims it is, the most respected leaders of islam are blunt with their desire to purge the world of all non-islamic religions.
that never works out well for them because they get rid of all their workers, intellectuals and professionals who flee to some place they can worship or not worship in peace.

I don't believe that Islam is dangerous. Plenty could be said of Christianity's history. A few groups are dangerous. Anyone who cannot discern various forms of Islam is no scholar.

Is Faith Immoral?
by Coded Logic inwhen people willfully believe something without evidence, or contrary to evidence, are they neglecting thier moral responsibility?
so many people say faith is a virtue but i just can't comprehend why anyone would think that.

My faith is not blind. I am addicted to religious history books. The clear consensus is that Jesus of Nazareth lived. There is even general agreement about what the disciples believed at his death and the road to Christology where Jesus becomes God. These are academics in universities. They are not seminarians or theologians. I was taught by Elaine Pagels when she was not a believer. Marcus Borg and N.T. Wright discuss the general outline in the book. No one believes that Jesus of Nazareth acted the way he does in the gospels that were canonized.
I don't recall the details for why they are virtually certain Jesus existed. There are prob. sources on the Internet. Google Scholar will return hundreds, if not thousands, of hits. You can also visit a bookstore, read it, and put it back on the shelf for free.

I was surprised to read Genesis more closely with the aid of a Karen Armstrong book that the location is so detailed. When I was reading Homer, a commentary talked of religion starting at x, and migrating to y. You would think that the country would promote it as a tourist mecca. I've heard that the Jordan River is smaller than the Passaic River. The Mount of Olives is not very striking. My heart has been stuck on being in Bethelhem for Christmas. A friend said there are cheap, flashing neon signs from the church.
